What this giveaway picker does
You bring the list and the wheel draws from it. Paste up to 1,000 entries, one per line, and spin once for each winner. Each winner leaves the wheel, so nobody wins twice, and every pick goes into a numbered list you can copy.
This tool does not read comments or connect to any social media account. You collect the entries yourself and paste them in. HandyWheel is not affiliated with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or any other platform. Your list stays in your browser and is not uploaded.
How to draw a giveaway winner
- Close the entries. Stop accepting entries at the time you announced, so the list can't change during the draw.
- Collect the names. Copy the usernames from the comments or your entry form into a text file or spreadsheet, one entry per line.
- Check the list. Remove entries that break your rules, and see the tips on duplicates below.
- Paste the list. Open Bulk edit above, delete the sample names, paste your list and press Apply list. The counter shows how many entries are on the wheel.
- Spin once per winner. The first name in the numbered list is your first winner. Remove winner after spin is already ticked.
- Draw your reserves. Keep spinning for one or two reserves, in case a winner doesn't reply.
- Save the result. Press Copy order and keep the numbered list with your recording.
Collecting entries from comments
Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments have to be collected by hand here. For a small giveaway, go through the comments and type or copy each username into a list. For a bigger one, some platforms and third-party tools can export comments; check that any tool you use is allowed by the platform, then paste the names here. Copy only what the draw needs, such as the username. There is no need to keep other details about the people who entered.
Keep one entry per line. Commas don't split a line, so “Anna, Mark” counts as one entry.
Duplicates and extra entries
Every line on the wheel has exactly the same chance, so the list decides the odds:
- One entry per person: remove repeats before you spin. The wheel doesn't remove them for you. Press Sort A–Z to put identical names next to each other, or use the remove duplicates function in your spreadsheet. Names must match exactly to be seen as the same, so watch for different capitals.
- Extra entries: if your rules give someone more entries, for example one per tagged friend, add that person's name once for each entry. Someone with 3 lines has 3 times the chance of someone with 1.
- The same person twice: with extra entries, a winner's other lines stay on the wheel. If each person can only win once, delete their remaining lines before the next spin, or press Spin again if the same name comes up.
Write down in your rules which of these you use, before the giveaway starts.
Drawing several winners and reserves
Spin once per prize, in the order you announced. If the prizes differ, say which spin is for which prize before you start, for example “first spin wins the main prize”. Then draw reserves the same way. If a winner doesn't reply by your deadline, the next number on the list takes the prize, so nobody has to ask for a new draw.
Showing the draw fairly
The winner is picked by your browser's secure random number generator before the wheel starts turning. Nobody can steer it, but nobody can see that either, so let people watch:
- Use fullscreen. Press Fullscreen for a clean view on a big screen or a live stream. The list is hidden there, so show it first.
- Record your screen. Use your phone's or computer's own screen recorder, or draw on a live stream. Start before you paste the list, so viewers see the number of entries and the first spin.
- Show the list. Scroll through it on the recording, or publish the number of entries with the result.
- Draw once. Don't quietly respin until you like the result. Announce a respin rule in advance, for example for entries that turn out to be invalid.
Big lists, up to 1,000 entries
The wheel takes up to 1,000 entries of up to 60 characters each. If you paste more, only the first 1,000 are used and a message tells you so. With more than 60 entries the names no longer fit on the slices, so the wheel hides them and shows the name at the pointer in large text as it spins. On a very big wheel neighboring entries also share a color, but each entry still has exactly the same chance. For a big list, Copy share link copies the list of names instead of a link, because a link holding that many names is too long to send reliably.
Before you start
Rules for giveaways differ by country and by platform. Check the promotion rules of the platform you use, and whether your country treats a prize draw as a lottery. Tell people who is running the giveaway and that the platform isn't involved, if its rules require it.
