Stop asking “what should I eat?”

Choosing food is a small decision that can eat up a surprising amount of time, especially at the end of a long day or when two people both say “I don't mind, you choose”. A food wheel ends the loop: put the options on it, spin, and eat whatever it lands on. Most people find that the moment the wheel stops, they know straight away whether they are happy with it or secretly wanted something else. Either way, you have decided.

How to use the food wheel

    1. Pick a starting list. The wheel starts with ten everyday dinners. Click one of the ready-made food wheels below to load a different list.
    2. Make it yours. Delete what you never eat (press ×), add your favorite dishes or local restaurants, or paste a list into Bulk edit.
    3. Spin. Press Spin or click the wheel. The meal under the pointer wins.
    4. Come back tomorrow. This page remembers your food list in this browser, so the next “what's for dinner?” is one click away.

    Ready-made food wheels

Click a wheel to load its list onto the wheel above, then spin it as it is or edit it. Loading a list replaces the food currently on the wheel.

Two spins: cuisine first, then the restaurant

If a list of every restaurant nearby is too long, decide in two steps. Spin the Takeout cuisine wheel first to choose, say, Thai or Mexican. Then clear the wheel, type in the two or three places you know for that cuisine, and spin again. Each wheel stays short and readable, and you still end up with one clear answer.

    Deciding as a group

A wheel is at its best when several people cannot agree, because nobody has to be the one who picked. A few house rules keep everyone happy:

    • Everyone adds one or two options. That way the wheel only holds food that at least one person actually wants.
    • One veto each. Anyone may reject one result per evening. After that, the wheel's word is final.
    • Weight the favorites. If most of the group loves pizza, add it twice so it has double the chance without being certain.
    • Show it big. Press Fullscreen on a laptop or TV so everyone sees the spin.

    Meal planning with the wheel

The wheel also works for planning a whole week. Put your regular dinners on it, tick Remove winner after spin and spin seven times, writing down one meal per day. Every meal leaves the wheel once it is picked, so you get seven different dinners and a ready-made shopping list. Save your list with Copy share link, and next week you can start again from the full list in one click.

Families with children can give each child a turn at the Spin button. Kids are far more likely to eat a dinner they “chose” themselves, and arguments about whose turn it is to pick simply stop.

Takeout, fast food or cooking at home?

Sometimes the real question isn't the dish but the effort. Put that on the wheel first: “Cook at home”, “Takeout”, “Fast food”, “Leftovers” and “Eat out”. Once the wheel has chosen how you eat, load the matching list from the ready-made food wheels above and spin a second time for what you eat. If the answer is “Cook at home” and the fridge is nearly empty, the Cheap meals wheel only uses pantry basics such as rice, pasta, lentils, eggs and potatoes.

    Is the wheel fair?

Every slice is the same size and every option has exactly the same chance. The result is picked by your browser's secure random number generator before the wheel starts to turn, so nobody can stop it on their favorite. Want to tip the odds on purpose? Add a dish more than once, and everyone can see that you did.

    More ways to decide

Only two options left, pizza or sushi? Flip a coin. Need a simple answer to “should we order in?”, ask the yes or no generator. For date night, game night and weekend plans, see the wheel ideas, and if you are picking whose turn it is to cook, the random name picker takes care of that.

    Frequently asked questions

What should I eat for dinner tonight?

Spin the wheel above. It starts with ten everyday dinners; swap in the meals you actually like and the wheel will pick one for you in a few seconds.

Can I put my own restaurants on the food wheel?

Yes. Type each restaurant or dish and press Enter, or paste a whole list into “Bulk edit”, one per line. You can add up to 100 options.

How do I plan a week of dinners with the wheel?

Put at least seven meals on the wheel, tick “Remove winner after spin” and spin seven times. Each meal leaves the wheel once it is picked, so you get seven different dinners.

Can I make my favorite food come up more often?

Yes. Add it twice or three times. On a wheel with ten slices, a dish that appears twice has a 2-in-10 chance instead of 1-in-10.

How can a group decide what to eat?

Let everyone add one or two options, agree that everyone may veto one result, and spin. Because the wheel decides, nobody has to be the one who chose.

    Is my food list saved?

Yes. This page saves your list in this browser, separately from the main wheel, so it is still there next time. Nothing is uploaded.

Can I send the food wheel to friends?

Yes. Press “Copy share link” and send it. Anyone who opens the link sees the same food options and can spin the wheel themselves.
